The Lord God Made Them All by James Herriot

Untitled 17.jpg On average I usually finish about a book a week. Statistics are funny things, though. If you were to pick a random cluster of weeks it would probably look like I read either much less or much more than that. In February and most of March this year I didn’t finish any books. Now in July I’ve had a rush. I have been writing short reviews of each book and putting them into one post at the end of each month. My document for July is over six pages so far.

I’ve recently been informed — in a good way — that people don’t like to read large blog posts. I think that this is true whether because of laziness, lack of interest, eye-strain — from the computer screen — or just plain time limiting factors. I started writing about books on this blog because one of my favorite things is to discuss books with people, even better if they have read the same book that I have. My problem is that I have a difficulty expressing myself verbally. I usually have more to say about books than “it was good” or “I didn’t like it” but those are usually the only things that I say when people bring up books. I decided this way I could express my opinions about books and possibly get some feedback. I even like it when people disagree with me.

So, in a longwinded way of talking about talking about having shorter posts I decided that I would post my thoughts on each book, one at a time over the next couple of weeks.

So: The Lord God Made Them All by James Herriot…

This is a collection of stories about a country vet in England. Many of them are funny, some are hilarious, and all of them are fascinating. If you love animals you’ve probably already read this.

Herriot has a pleasant style of writing that makes the stories sound like he is in the room with you, reminiscing on his days as a vet.
