I don’t know what it is about construction sites but they are endlessly fascinating. This has been true at every age of my life, so far. It may be because I have never actually worked construction.
I am especially amazed at the cranes. They tower above everything, boom, cable and hook, swinging this way and that, looming and fragile. Only they aren’t fragile. They can lift huge loads over great distances — thus doing a large amount of work.
How can something that looks so delicate be so powerful?
Engineering and physics.
And that’s why construction sites are so fascinating. It’s witnessing engineering and physics in action.
