My oldest son has recently begun to recognize the existence of sunsets. He constantly stops to notice them. I must say that his eye is much more critical than mine. He notices the sky turning a little bit green about half an hour before I can tell that sunset is starting.
In the midst of participating in a decidedly commercialized version of a holiday decidedly pagan in origin he stopped, pointed at the sky and said, “Look.” Then he went back to cutting down Captain Hook with his foam sword. I’ve learned in the last three years that when a child says ‘look’, if you don’t you might never see what they were trying to show you. So I looked, and it struck me that not only was the sunset quite nice but the silhouettes beneath is were so stereotypical of Tucson that I needed to record it… on silicon as it were.
