We encountered this caterpillar when hiking in the Jemez Mountains west of Santa Fe. It was climbing up a rock, crusted with lichen and flaking with age. It slipped and rolled down a few times but just started back up again. I wondered what gives such a small, clumsy creature such drive to get where it’s going. It can’t possibly see the end of its destination but up it got and tried again.
I’m sure there’s some kind of life lesson in there if you look hard enough.
