When backpacking you find out really quickly how little you actually need to go camping. You really don’t need much. When you have to carry it all on your back you discover really fast what you can do without and what you absolutely have to have.
Me, I have to have my camera. This time I decided to take, not only my SLR — which is quite heavy compared to my little Panasonic — but also two different lenses. I reasoned that I would need the long lens for wildlife and the short lens for some good scenery shots. I was glad that I had both. I will probably do the same thing next time.
This picture is the reason that I was glad to have the long lens mounted on my camera and in my hand while hiking. These little guys don’t sit and contemplate the way the other kind of monk does.
