This chapter was difficult to write for many reasons. This book is not meant to be a mystery, nor am I any good at writing mysteries. However, William had to figure out what was going on and he had to do it without any of the modern forensics methods that we have today. He very nearly didn’t succeed. The difficulty is in making the chapter believable, but also short enough that the book doesn’t evolve into a medieval mystery book at this point.
This is my chapter of calm before the proverbial storm.
