Matins

Matins is derived the latin Matutinus meaning ‘of or belonging to the morning.’ It is the name given to the Medieval Catholic ritual of welcoming in the dawn that included ringing the bells, singing (or probably chanting) and reciting scriptures — usually some of the Psalms.

My morning ritual, when camping is to get up at dawn and look to the east. I’ve heard of much lauded ocean sunrises and I’ve seen a few of them. They literally have nothing on the range of color that can be found in New Mexico’s skies.
